Welcome Review Minutes
Review final budget from last meeting
Ratify preliminary budget and certify alignment with BSC priorities
Discussion regarding progress on middle school math supports
William foresees no need for an emergency meeting after this last ssc meeting. We aligned budget to the BSC and there are no cuts as we had originally thought.
We reviewed last meeting minutes.
Miss Carrie Osborne and Mr. David Reiss are will not be laid off! but we have not heard yet about Laura. We foresee being able to rehire Jane and Tina.
Budget
The budget is the same as last time we met. In fact, it is even a little more.
We will be funding all positions, no cuts to positions. This includes Tina, an early literacy specialist, and Arlene Hernandez.
$1 left in general fund unrestricted.
There is $80,000 categorized as “to be specified” because the PTA made a motion that if funds are cut, then there will be funds available for the early literacy program and Korean Immersion.
Prop H money stayed the same as last year (but is down from the year before) Prop H sports is down, Special Ed is down, mostly for materials.
Our non personnel budget, we have more money than last year so don’t see any problems with funding in those categories.
Consumable replacement workbooks for math are free from publisher.
Now have $2700 in substitute money for sub days.
There might have to be cuts on the “non personnel” side of the budget in September, but maybe not.

Middle School Math Support
Would like to have a person who would do an elective period as well as after school enrichment.
It will be a challenge to find the right person. This person could potentially be a graduate student, or high school student, or potentially the pta could hire someone for the elective and after school as well as hire some graduate students.
This person, or persons, will be serving 2 populations: the students who need extra help and the students who need more of a challenge. Potentially all the middle school students would be taking advantage of this program since many students cycle in and out of needing extra help or extra challenges.
Also, not many middle school students in the 7th and 8th grade take the school bus, so the program will not only help students during the school day, it will also be available to almost every middle school student after school.
Some ideas for what this person could provide CL:
A math club
after school support for no fee
club to help with remediation and enrichment
elective for remediation one quarter to be alternated with elective for enrichment
Coordinate math counts
a tutor for students experiencing a little trouble
a “drop in“ tutor
Coordinate San Francisco math circle
Coordinate Lego program
Use the math kits already on hand
Help students at lunch
Have a lunch math club
This person would need to be available 5 days a week for elective program. Also, of course this person would be fingerprinted and would need to go through San Francisco School Volunteer Program if they are to be funded through the pta. They will also need to coordinate with Lisa and Pamela to align what they are doing in their elective with what is going on in the classroom. If this person is going to receive a gift from the PTA, it would potentially cost us less than the estimate we have of the cost of a .5 position which we estimate at about $40,000.
William will investigate what math enrichment and remedial programs are at other smaller school
Cathy will investigate graduate students who might want to accept this position
Math Counts will be researched as well
SangYeon will contact San Francisco Math Circle
